The Virtue of Six fast of Month of Shawal
Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari R. reported Rasullah (S.A) said, “Whoever performs the fasting of the Ramadan and then performs the fasting of six days in the month of Shawwal will be rewarded as if he had performed the fasting of the whole year.” (Muslim Sharif:1164)
It was narrated from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever fasts six days after the Fitr will have completed the year, for whoever does a good deed will have the reward of ten like it.”
1786 Ibn Majah
Allah (SWT) has blessed this ummah with some valuable time, days and months to make some special Ibadah and gain high status in the eyes of Allah (SAW) and get dignity over the previous ummahs. Because previous nations’ life was very long, they got big chances to make more Ibadah but this Ummah of Muhammad (S.A.W.) is the last ummah and they are very weak and have very short lives. Thus they cannot compare or compete with the previous ummahs. But this ummah is a very beloved ummah to Allah (SWT) so He blessed them and gave them some valuable times such Laylatul Qadr, Laylatul Barat, the month of Ramadan and the nights of the two Eids to make Ibadah on those days and get more reward and Jaza from Allah (SWT) to make their high status and win over the other nations on the Day of Judgment.
Now we have to take these chances and involve with doing the more and more Ibadah and seeking the forgiveness to Allah (SWT).
The six days of fasting of Shawal is also a chance from Allah SWT to gain more reward and blessings.
That’s why we have to make more effort and struggle to take this opportunity and every person should perform the fast of six days of the month of Shawwal.
Especially, in this country fasting is very easy and free of pain in the wintertime. Days are very short and work is less, doing fasting is so easy.
In the Hadith Shareef, Rasulullah (SAW) had said,
“IN-NA LI KULLI SHAYIN ZAKATUN WA ZAKATUL JASADI AS SAUM”
(Every thing has the zakat and the zakat of body is fasting.)
Another Hadith narrates: Fasting in the wintertime is a free ganimat (gift).
So, if we would like to get more reward, high status in the eyes of Allah and to win over the other ummahs on the Day of Judgment we should never miss this opportunity and don’t be lazy to do these Ibadah and worships. May Allah give us tawfiq to do more and more Ibadah according to the way shown by Prophet (SAW). Ameen.
